Expanding Horizons In Cedar-Riverside
In 2003 the University of Minnesota College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture Design Center was asked to provide technical assistance to a participatory planning process dealing with pedestrian planning around Cedar Riverside light rail station. Due to lack of funds the process was put on hold and the Design Center continued the project as a student workshop class for design and planning students. Students developed proposals for pedestrian systems, open spaces, and for how physical planning can contribute to community and economic development. Expanding Horizons won the American Planning Association, Minnesota Chapter, Award for an Outstanding Plan.

Your county government is working hard to give local businesses the tools they need to better manage their resources, dispose of their wastes, and improve the efficiency of their operations all while helping protect our environment. That is why the Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board has enhanced its Green Guardian website with new tools and information to help businesses reduce, reuse, and recycle waste.

From finding a new home for unwanted office furniture and old computers to identifying recycling services for used oil filters, concrete, or pallets, the business section of the Green Guardian website has easy-to-find answers for what to do with just about any waste material. There are even interactive tools such as a paper caluculator to get personalized information for your specific needs. Businesses interested in changing the way they handle products and waste can log on at no charge.
